I believe the houses were called Amberswood Terrace,the piece of fence in the foreground would have been on Manchester Rd,opposite Seaman Way and near the railway bridge.

I think the houses are where old Jane Green used to live, she used to buy scrap off us in the late 40s early 50s, there is now a bungalow on the site, which if I am right, is reached by the small lane just on the left through Amberswood railway bridge, heading towards Hindley, the signal box was the one which filtered trains from the whelley loop onto the main line to Hindley, good photo Mr Sutch, brings a lot of memories back for me that one does

These houses in question were places just off Manchester road. Travelling from Ince, go under the railway bridge at Ince park and turn imediatly left onto a dirt track, then you will arrive at these houses, in the past it was said that Jane Greens Donkeys were kept close by these houses

Another good one Tom and a bit of an unusual one too. Presumably the track in the foreground is the Whelley line dropping down towards Fir Tree House Jct. and close by must be Amberswood West Jct?

Yes Dave, has you say, the line in the foreground is the Fir Tree House line from Amberswood West.

Thanks for confirming that Tom, I wasn't totally convinced I was correct as its amazing the way the perspective is distorted when you use a telephoto lens!

You are correct Maurice, it is Amberswood Terrace, you are never too old to learn, and that was one lane I never knew the name of, i know that it faced what we knew as the sanitorium, which was a TB hospital, there wasnt much left of it when we were kids but it was the gateway to the rubber dump for us, and that was our adventure playground, I have never seen any photos of there, I dont know why ????, there has to be some around

My wife's uncle lived there at one time. I don't know the date? His name was Bill Clarke. Later he lived in Marlborough Avenue. Spring View

It was probably the early 50s Roland, I was about 11 and we all used to go and play there, my dad wouldn't have let me go if he didn't think I was old enough to look after myself, do you also remember the one behind the slag tip, although there were more bullets than rubber, some of them even live

my mate lived in one of these houses alan roberts and we both worked at john englands engineer the place in the background
