A leading actor in this production was Arthur Leslie (1901-1970) seen here playing a main role. He's best remembered as "Jack Walker", the long suffering husband of "Annie Walker" and the landlord of "The Rover's Return" in Coronation Street. His real life wife, Betty Morton Powell, is also in the production. The production company Frank H Fortescue was also responsible for launching the career of another Arthur, Arthur Lowe, of "Dad's Army" fame.
In the small footnotes at the bottom of the left hand page there is the following, "In the event of an air-raid warning being received during the performance the audience will be informed at once from the stage. It should be remembered that the warning does not necessarily mean that a raid will take place, and that in any case it is not likely to occur for at least five minutes"
There's no information as to whether or not the patrons would be liable for a refund if the production had to be cancelled as a result of any raid!

I have to say I was only a babe in arms when this play took place but I do remember going to the Hippodrome some years later to a panto that starred another Coronation Street character/actress, Betty Driver, alias Betty Turpin. Such a glamourous lady, with her blonde hair, pink tulle dress, white piano & a poodle to match. Great show.
