I don't have any information about this photograph. It belonged to my husband's grandfather, so we never got the chance to ask about it.

Almond's. Had many an excellent pint of their beer, in the White Horse, on Standishgate. A lovely nutty taste.. Could just do with one now.

Almonds bitter was the best pint in standish without a doubt.

Albert , I was lost in thought when I went into a London pub a month ago now. Looking at what I thought was the food menu, still not concentrating, I saw on the blackboard the offer of Red Squirrel. I thought my word , no wonder they are in such decline . Moments later I woke up to realise this was in fact a type of bitter.. Hold onto your ales, they are changing beyond recognition. Sorry Christine for going off your post. Thank you posting

The man standing 2nd from right back row has more than a passing resemblance to that of J Speakman, 2nd from right back row on the photo of St Anne's FC 1921-22 in Nicholas Webb's "Standish & Shevington" in Wigan Heritage Services "Pocket Images" booklet. Maybe a brother or father, or a close relative.
