This photo was taken around 1900, My Grt grandfather, Richard Winstanley is on the left end of the middle row.I don't know where this photo is taken or the church in the background so any help would be appreciated thanks.

Could it have been taken at the side of Whelley Methodist Chapel?

Don't know if it's relevant, but goalkeepers only had to wear different coloured jerseys to the rest of the team after 1909.

If this is Whelley Chapel ,which it does look like The photo must have been taken in the yard at the back of Bath St I used to play in that yard in the 40s/50s and there was a wall built where the fence is in the pic and toilets where the shed is

The police man in the background is quite interesting ,gaining the trust of local people,so the new fad of neighbourhood policing,isn't so new after all

Observations haven't yet finished, Vicky. The officials are all smartly dressed, the players 'proud' and a refreshments cabin to boot. This must have been a well-founded football club.
