Jimmy
It was being built in 1956 when we moved from Kitt Green.
I thought it looked like Heinz as well.
I spent many hours in the woods and fields around there as a child

I worked at Heinz from 1958 before production began

Heinz opened in Kitt Green May 1959.

Surely out of 259 views up to now someone can put a name to one of these lads and possibly a team name, having said that i haven,t a clue myself.

Looking at he background. Got to say I don't think it is Wigan

Comment by: Ben on 10th May 2012 at 12:09

If that's a water tower, top left, possibly Warrington way.

A wild card. Hindley and Abram G.S. played in light blue and dark blue quartered shirts. I was there 1947/1952 but don't recognise anybody.

could that be cws glass works in background?.

Comment by: broady on 11th May 2012 at 22:35

Maybe it could be their Old Boys team as a few of those look older than school age.

It's gone quiet and nobody seems to have a clue as to where this might be, neither have I, but I do notice a rise in the background on right, how about Rivington area?

Something about this photo grabbed me.. it made me wonder if it was taken in Australia. This particular border on this photo was on photos of the era in Oz, but probably also in Britain...
The grey suit and vest definitely could place it in OZ in the 30s or 40s, but once again, could be Britain. I have even tried to google various options, but cannot find this exact uniform. Is that an emblem on the right sock of a couple of players?. Couldnt find anything on socks emblems either for either country! I tried! lol :)

The middle man of the three on the left reminds me of Mr Durkin who ran Almond Brook in the late sixties he also worked with my father at Mains Colliery, Bryn Gates and was a member of St. Marie's Standish i have studied this photo since it arrived on WW AND THATS MY WORTH WHILE OPION
