Ernie became player/coach at Huddersfield,after his Wigan days.

Ashcroft's last match and last try for Wigan was on 18th Oct 1958 against Whitehaven at Central Park. He joined Huddersfield and then went on to replace Cecil Mountford at Warrington in 1961 where he coached until May 1967 when he was replaced by Jackie Fleming.

was at the Whitehaven in the hen pen snow had to be removed
from pitch for play to take place Ashcroft broke is leg or his arm during match can;t remember which.
