Born 24/11/02, Ellaby was originally a soccer player with Rotherham United until a knee injury ended his soccer career.Turned to rugby League as a winger joining St Helens in 1925. He transferred to Wigan in 1933/34 playing 102 times and scoring 90 tries.He represented Lancs, England and Great Britain. Transferred back to St Helens in Dec 1937.
