Hi Geraldine, could you tell me are those Rooneys any relation to us. My grandma was Rooney and she lived on Darlington St, East a couple of doors away from Billy Seddons butchers.

Hi Joan no im afraid no relation,Grandad was the only son to survive infancy. His father, also William had only one bother that married and he and family moved to St Helens arond 1890. But have often wondered what brought their parents and family to Wigan from Ireland in 1860s only one other Rooney family in Wigan on 1871 census,may be some link back there.

Hi Geraldine, was your dad named Stanley, if so was he a window cleaner and if answer to those are yes he used to clean my grandmas windows on darlington st.

wrote a reply to this already but must have done something wrong on sending it,so if two messages appear , sorry! yes to both questions dad was Stan and he was a window cleaner we lived one row down on the other side of the road. I do remember him mentioning a Mrs Rooney across the road.

I always find photos of Rooney boys/men but it is harder to come by photos of Rooney girls. I am trying to find out if there is a connection to any of the Rooneys in Wigan and saw great this photo. Do you mind if I share it with my family on my family tree site to see if anyone recognizes this family?
