Tom Killeen of St.Patrick's parish was a soldier who distinguished himself in June 1944,just after the D-day landings. He was "mentioned in despatches" twice, the first for his part in destroying a Tiger tank and two self propelled guns. This action was done at close quarters with grenades,Toms second heroic action came shortly after, when he single handedly cleaned out a nest of enemy snipers hiding an a church.Tom stayed in the army after the war ended and attained the the rank of Sergeant Major. He also attended St.Patrick's school and was a noted rugby player.
A brave man to who we should all be thankful for and a true gent, god bless Tom and thanks.

Nora Killeen's brother, she married my uncle Billy Ode! I remember uncle Bill telling me the story. There was another brother in the army at the same time but I can't think of his name!
