The bottom photo shows the props that Fred used. They were all old telegraph poles and when I asked him why had they all got holes in them,Fred told me that he found out by accident that when he was watching one burn that already had a hole in, it burnt like a blowlamp where the hole was so he tried it out on all the props on his next job and it was a success,giving a quicker drop, so he drilled them all after that but he used an old hand operated chest drill to put 1 inch holes in every prop. This was at Bolton in the mid '80s.
