Exceptional photograph, fred. What a strong couple they look, they certainly make a statement.
Ben Twigg was my Grandads brother,my Grandad was John Twigg whome i never met.My mum remembers visiting uncle Ben and his family. My mums name was then Lilian Twigg, she was one of 4 children 3 brothers Billy, John, and James Twigg.
James Twigg was my grandfather he was married to Anne Baldwin my dad Stanley Twigg used to tell me stories about living in the Ormsndy's houses in Westwood.
Ben Twigg was my paternal grandmother's paternal grandfather (so my great-great-grandfather). He was born in Birmingham on 28/04/1844; his brother John was born in 1847 in Birmingham too. The family moved to Dudley. Ben married Mary Kilshaw at St Thomas's in Ashton on 31/08/1869 and they had six children, two of whom died young. I don't know what happened to Mary but Ben then met Elizabeth in the photo. They had fifteen children, five of whom died young. They would have spent over forty years together, most of which were in Ormandy's Houses. They both died in early 1928. Ben was 83 when he died, Elizabeth - a Wigan lass - was only 61.
