My mother and father, William Ardern Mason & Elsie Roby c. 1940, before they married, when my father was 1036691 Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force. After they married at St. Mark's Church, Newtown in July 1942, they lived and worked together as grocers/confectioners at 38/40 Victoria Street, Newtown.

I agree with Veronica, Maureen and Irene. My grandma was a Roby, all the Roby girls were good looking, not sure about their offspring though, especially ME!!

Roy I think the uniform played its part as well - especially in wartime! If you go on the 40's events a lot of the older men wearing the various uniforms look quite distinguished and dare I say a bit 'raffish'! ( as Irene might agree!)

At the forties events, the gentlemen in uniforms always end up with lip-shaped red lipstick marks on their cheeks!
