What a lovely Singer Gazelle.
It is a Sunbeam Rapier, Garry. It only had 2 doors and bigger "wings" than the Gazelle.
That's what you call a proper car, from a proper time. Charm, style, and soul all in one, no ABS, power steering, etc. But no doubt a rust bucket like so many cars of the time. You'd probably expect to pay around 6-8 grand for one in good nick today.
Similar Garry but not quite. This is a Sunbeam Rapier by Rootes Group, a class car in it's day.
Jim. When Mr Tatum came home, after war service, in the R.A.F., as a Flight Lieutenant, in 1946. His parents bought him a,- ?- - Standard motor car, the one that had the union flag motif, at the centre front of the bonnet. I got the job of cleaning it during dinner break. His parents owned Tatum's post office, and newsagents, opposite, Taylor's Lane. I took out news papers' for them.
Jimmy, I remember mr Tatum having a red rapier or gazelle during 1965 when I was at Spring view school brand new it was the envy of all the 15 yo lads in those days
I seem to remember Mr Tatum having a red Humber Sceptre, twin headlights if I remember right. Or was that Mr Beddard?
Geoff, you could be right,it could have been mr bedards but don't ever remember noticing blocks on the pedals ,just joking Geoff,he was a great teacher also
Jimmy. The car I was referring to in my last comment, 1946, was a Standard 8 H.P. It had a fold back roof.
