I know a member of the RANICAR family that owned shops in Wigan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Such an unusual name they must be related ????

There was a Ranicar who lived in Dalton and used to drive around the country lanes in a big old Rolls Royce type of car

Same family as the Ranicar that I know. She was married to PRINCE OBOLENSKY who played Rugby Union for England.

Hello Alexandra! My grandmother was Eva Ranicar and my great-grandfather was Elias Ranicar who owned, along with his son Arthur Ranicar, two stores in Wigan. There are several Peter Ranicars in our tree. Definitaly we are related. Our 'Ranicar' surname is a variation of the surname 'Runacres'. The photos you see on 'Wigan World' are my direct family. Would love to see the ones that you have. May help to make a closer connection. Please feel free to contact me at <cema1@yahoo.ca> if I can be of any further help to you. Sincerely, Christine

Like Christine, I have much of the Ranicar family tree. Was your father born in 1946? If so, he was my husband's cousin.

Hi Alexandra. I lived in Dalton and went to school with your dad, and have often wondered what happened to him. He was a couple of years older than me and I don't remember much other than going to his birthday party and his mother having red fingernails, which I had never seen before , and not the norm for Dalton in the 50's! I would be interested to know what happened to the family and why he went to Nigeria.

Hi, I was at Embley Park School, Romsey Hants in the late '50's early '60's and we had a chap in the same class we knew as MIKE Ranicar who came from Wigan Pier. I remember he had an elder brother (who was not at Embley) and the pair of them were into motorcycling. Are we talking about the same person? If not I would like to contact the Mike Ranicar who was at school. Can you help at all? Please feel free to email me as there are about 6 of us planning a reunion.

I worked with Engr Peter Ranicar in Kaduna Nigeria from 1985 till 1988 with a company called Capital Aviation Services, we were into aerial applications with Bell 47 Soloy helicopters. He passed away around 1990 or there about. He had two children Sasha and Nicholas from a Nigerian lady, the lady passed away too.
