Taken around 1924, it shows a young Molly with her dad's horse (my grandad). Later she kept the little toffee shop opposite the school on Main St Billinge.

Thats a wonderful picture, from an era that would have been fast coming to a close with the greater numbers of motor cars taking over the cobblestoned streets.

'Lizzie from down under' would win her bet.
Molly had everything from Jack-Jumpers to Indian Brandee.
Her shop was also a veritable source of footballers on picture cards.
The cards came in a wrapper alongside a pink slab of something that purported to be chewing-gum.
A card in mint condition could be swapped for a well-thumbed card; if the exchange went some way to completing a set.
I don't suppose this type of thing goes on in today's playgrounds.

Phillip, I remember that chewing gum....if it was really cold the stuff used to just about melt away in your mouth.....it was covered with white sugary powder....gee that brings back memories....don't know what I did with the cards though ....cheers!!!
