This is a photo of my Auntie Joyce aged six years old back in 1933 in her Sunday best, posing with her favorite pram complete with scary doll!
The photo was was took in front of the allotment and and caravan where Fonnie Fisher lived. The allotment was situated at the end of Frith St, Newtown, roughly where B&Q is now. Other owners of the allotments were; Charlie Swift, Teddy Perkins and Harry Gill. Harry bred and show judged Roller Canaries.
Behind the allotments the land was used by Ernie Forshaw to store used 2nd World War equipment; tanks, planes, lorries, jeeps and Pom Pom guns. This was a THE reality playground of it's day for us kids!
Ernie started out as a rag & bone man and he finished up as one of the richest men in Wigan.

the caravan looks like it was made from the top deck of a Wigan tram. My uncle Harry had one just like it in his pen.It was mounted on a horse drawn waggon base. When he died a man with a tractor towed it away

Are you related to Ada Parr who used to live in Douglas Terrace?
