Ooby Doo was in a shop opposite the main post office in Wallgate, it was there from the late 70s and well into the 1980s. I seem to recall the same shop had previously been Oxley's, (might be wrong on that!) Ooby doo was a discount shop, a bit like Poundland in some ways.
I have been trying to figure out the shop that you can see through the door as this photo was taken inside the shop. Have you any idea?
Mary - I think it's the upstairs windows of what was then the Dog ans Partridge - now the Last Orders pub.
I thought that Oxleys was on the corner of Station Road and Millgate, later on before the Grand Arcade was built, it became the Yorkshire Bank.
Stuart, Oxley's was on the corner of Station Road and Millgate but I'm nearly certain they also had the shop on Wallgate at one time.
looks like millgate to me , jane has her pound note in her hand, interesting pic mary
The name of this shop was `Oobidoo`.
My comment in Memories, Some shops that no longer exist but people may remember, on page 3 (no date but before 2009) reads :-
"I still use, every day, a glass drinking mug from Oobidoo in Wallgate".
This mug is still in use every day.
If you type `oobidoo` in Search box above, a lot of info can be read.
