My grandpa, James (1877-1952), was a boiler maker at Walker Bros. He was a very good handyman and together with my father, they built a very large shed to house a treadle lathe, a drilling machine, a treadle bandsaw and workbenches - all made by themselves.
I spent many an hour on the treadle lathe making candlesticks, cigarette ash holders etc.
My grandma, Louisa (1876-1959 nee Hodson), was born in Preston. We visited one of her sister`s in Lower Penwortham on the No.113 bus before the war. The Wigan to Preston bus is still No.113!
