Here are my grandad and grandmother at Southport beach. After the Great War he set up a fruiterers business based in Cale Lane, New Springs. This photograph was taken just after he moved from horse and cart into the age of the internal combustion engine! He used to take my Mum (Alice Houghton) and her friends in the back of the wagon on Sunday afternoons to enjoy bike rides on Southport beach. He never really adjusted to motorised transport and would rarely get to speeds in excess of 20 mph!
