Dear Mr Walsh. I am Tony Rynn`s eldest sister and probably the only person alive today who actually remembers Auntie Martha Hogg,
As a midwife she brought me, my brother Joe, and Tony into the world. At my birth there were complications and it was suggested that a doctor be called. This, apparently was a slur on her skills as a midwife and she was adamant that she could manage without medical help. My young mother was terrified of her!
I often visited her home in Greenough St, With my father and Grandmother (her youngest sister)
I also, as child attended her funeral in 1934. In those days Catholics were not encouraged to attend Protestant church services and we (my parents and I)were told to sit silently during the service and not rise to join in the hymns. I remember feeling very conspicuous and uncomfortable as we were right at the front with all the family relatives. I also remember the police horse escort for the hearse. We went to a reception - at the old Town Hall in King St, I believe.
These comments are for Mr. Walsh ONLY.for his research.
I do not wish them to be published on the website 2pyih
