Does anyone know who anyone else is? Could that possibly be my g-grandfather William Wood behind the lady in white? I only have one grainy photo of him (published with his obituary) and it could be him. He lectured there and was headmaster at one point.

George Hardy Chief Constable is my great grand father, and I thought I had seen all his photos, I have an extensive collection I am so delighted to see this. Many thanks for such a great site.

Personally, I would be fascinated to see all the "great and good" in Wigan named on this photo, which is now 110 years old.

My great grandfather and grandmother were Sam and Louisa Wood. Sam was mayor of Wigan from 1907-1910. He died of appendicitis in 1911, leaving 3 sons and 3 daughters under 13.

Christine Cox,

Has anybody in your family done a family tree for Sam Wood ?
my late grandmother (who was a Winstanley) thought she was related to Sam Wood
