This is a photo of my Dad, Derek Finch on the left with older brother Billy Finch, taken around 1945 or 1946 behind their house in Cawdor Street, Newtown.
Dad reckons they are standing on the base of the recently removed bomb shelter.

This is lovely! How happy they look. Real "little lads" as they used to be in a more innocent age. The photographer has really caught a moment in time.

Hiya Barbera! Me and Karen are all alone at No7 now, the girls have all moved out.
My Dad looks like butter wouldn't melt in this picture, but I know he was "a proper lad". He once shot uncle Billy with a real bow and arrow!
Sadly uncle Billy passed away last week at the age of 73.

Yes, I think kids got up to plenty of mischief back then! My husband bears scars where his older brother shot him with a bow and arrow in the hip and it came out his back! My own brother (5yrs older than me) once shot me in the forehead with an arrow. Didnt penetrate thank god. Must have been a toy arrow. I was only about 6, but I remember it well. From the time he was little, my brother also had an air rifle that I can remember him aiming at and shooting a girl who lived about 100 yards away. He hit her in the leg and she screamed bloody murder! Apparently, he once also pointed it down my ear and pulled the trigger. I dont remember it, but my mother told me about it years later, and added "but it wasnt loaded". She must have seen him do it. hmmmmm... Our mother thought the sun shone out of my brother! I was way too scared to tell her anything. No, not all kids were angels!! :/

Hi RS,
Yes some of those names fit into my family tree. I know that quite a lot of them lived on Little Broom Street in Ince (now demolished).
I would love to hear from you, maybe you could fill in a few of the gaps!
