Comment by: brenda on 5th October 2011 at 18:34

if you mean about grandads hand yes i do thanks

Comment by: brenda on 5th October 2011 at 20:34

kath i was only 5yrs old when he died but i can remember evrything about him how do you know him

Comment by: Kath Arkwright on 6th October 2011 at 01:34

I don't know him. I saw his photograph, looked for his records, which were pension records and read about the amputation after the accident with a cogwheel. He did well over a year in the 5th Manchester Reserves and went from Private to L. Corporal and then Corporal but seemed not able to have a pension because his injury was in 'civil life'. I've been looking at my own hand trying to imagine how he managed.

There are 8 pages on Ancestry which I can send to you if you haven't already seen them.

Hi Brenda
My mum was called Alice Bretherton nee Lanyon. We lived on Moor Road in Orrell. Would love to know more about my mums side of the family. I believe her mum died young and would like to know more about this. Her father suffered a head injury in the war and had a metal plate, he died young too.
