I just love this old photo, typical of so many camera shots of the time, I have many of them. You could have got better results using a glass marble and a cardboard box, but it does have great atmosphere.

Maureen, I knew he reminded me of someone, but I couldn't think who! I love his clogs, too, and the obviously much-loved dog's name.

Irene..my Grandma, who was a lovely little Irish lady always wore clogs all through the week.. but on Sundays she wore black shiny shoes..and I agree about the dogs name,I always imagined dogs would be known as Rinty or Rex all those years ago..it just shows how wrong people can be..I mean Trantor is a lovely name isn't it.

Maureen I had clogs as a small child and I actually had some made for my son as a toddler in the late 1970s, as I think they are excellent support for children's feet and ankles.....such a shame they're not in fashion. I would also have got them for my daughter, but of course being hand-made they are expensive and I wasn't working when she was born, so couldn't afford it.

Trantor was first described in a short story by Asimov appearing in Early Asimov Volume 1. Later Trantor gained prominence when the 1940s Foundation Series first appeared in print (in the form of short stories).
