Annie Smith was married to Gerry Farrimond who was at one time, landlord of the Prince of Wales AKA jawbone in Victoria Street. Martha was married to Bill Smith. Tom Smith worked as a miner all his life and with Harold Bimson, opened up a day eye at Pony Dick.

Hi , Was Esther Hart, who married Peter Atherton in 1900 any relation.

Comment by: fred foster on 28th December 2010 at 07:58

Yes, Esther was another sister to Martha. They only had one brother Jack, who was Alice's dad. Another sister was Bill Bretherton's mother. Bill played rugby at one time for Wigan.

Hi Fred and Lynne

Bill Bretherton's mother was my Aunt Nell (Ellen), my mother's sister. Marthe Hart was her Grandmother Esther was my Grandmother's sister, Aunt to Ellen and her siblings who included my mother.

Gt Grandma Hart's children were Mary, my Grandma Elizabeth
Harriet ,(in Photo) Nellie ( who Billy's mother was named after,) Jane, Martha (not in photo) Hannah and Jack
Hope I did not miss any.
(Jack Hart was Gt Gran Hart's youngest, and only son.)

A bit complicated but I hope it all makes sense!!!

Forgot to say Dick and Tom had another brother, Sam, who was a regular soldier (Sgt Major I think) When he retired from the Army he lived in Bold St. Their Mother, Martha, Gt Gran's daughter ,was married to William Smith. Martha is not he Martha on the picture.
My Mother's eldest brother was at Dunkirk and whilst awaiting rescue came across his cousin Sam sitting under a tree. Amazing out of all those people that 2 cousins should meet each other. They both used to say that they were never so glad to see anyone in their life.
