Can anyone name the make and model of the car?

Think it looks like a ford Zodiac from the 60`s

Comment by: davey on 21st July 2010 at 18:55

Looks like a Ford Zephyr / Zodiak or dagenham disaster as they were called I think.

Very difficult to tell from the side as the Zodiac and Zephyr were very similar, the Zodiac had twin headlight with a straight six (inline) engine. Very quick in it's day and very thursty.

My friends dad had one, I seem to recall it had a bench seat at the front.

Its a zodiac i think another diffrence at the time with the zodiac and zephyr was the the zephyr at the time had a thicker rear qaurter panel post with a air vent level with the rear side window the zodiacs as can be seen was very slim has can be seen in the photo.

just uploaded a picture of a zephyr taken at a classic car show so you can see the diffrence in the rear qaurter panel and the air vent

I had a Zephyr 6 in 1966, bought 2nd hand from Ernie Wilkes in Wallgate. It had 4 gears and as you say, a bench seat The reg no. was 582GGE. I loved that car and only got rid when the bodywork was beyond repair

A lovely place to live in those days. Some grand property around the area.

It was a lovely place to live in those days and years later, Veronica. But, it has changed, especially certain parts, such as Standishgate and Wigan Lane - and, I personally feel, not for the better. The (new) road erased so much: The Saracen's Head, all the shops between The Saracen's Head and The Millstone, the two small parks and their blossom trees. The array of shops have virtually disappeared and it now seems a lane of take-aways.
By the way, on the topic of the car, I would say that it is a Ford Zodiac. Possibly, circa 1965 MKIII model?
Didn't the Zephyr (of this era) have a wider metal frame between the back quarter glass and the rear windshield?
Also, I would say that the photograph was taken around 1969.
