sorry to contradict you,hindley neighbour,but im absolutaly sure ,that the lady on the right of photo is the josephine jackson from mawdsley street liverpool road ,i have a school picture of her she was in my class at argyle street ,i also used to go play at her house ,her mum was a dressmaker ,her name was ethel and her dad was called johnny realy lovely people ,,so if you read this josephine please let us know which one hindley person is right /////

looking at this photo,frank hoyle on the left(not the little boy on the left)then we have have joan who married frank.then JOSEPHINE JACKSON WHO HAS NEVER LIVED IN MAWDSLEY ST,lastly her friend kath from swinton.josie is my sister and we still have this photo.as you can see josie is the one who put the pic on this site under her married name josie lang.

sorry it seams im wrong ,Josaphine yr the double in looks as well as name ,i have since found out the Josie i knew now lives in Ashton ,but it is a small world ,i actually live in Darby lane now ,and my husbands dads family are relatives of the walkers ,teddy walker was his dads cousin ,and Christine i do remember yr mum mrs walker on the biscuit s in woolworths a tiny built lady and i think she had a lovely accent not sure what she spoke very nice ,i also remember Mrs Holland in woolies ,she was a well built lady ,,ps i went to Argyle st school i left in 1959 i am now 68 so ithink im a bit older than you ,cheers B Rigby ..
hi hindlier mum was a geordy she came from newcastle she moved to hindley when she got married she met my dad in southamton, dad came from aspull ,i lived in hereford rd i now live in wigan ,i go to our coffee mornings at st johns every two weeks might see you sometime christine x
i do remember ,wasnt your mum and dad regulars at st johns church ,i was christened thier i believe my name is on some babtism board up in the church ive never seen it my self but ive been told its there ,a lady called maggie knowels was my god parent ,she always went to st johns i knew her ss auntie maggie even though no relation,a lovely person ,she was a neigbour of my mums and in those days lots of friends and neighbours were yr auntie and uncle ,,that was part of the good old days when communitys got together and looked out for one another ,,christine you probebly new another close friend of mine JO Maiden she was always doing things at for st johns like cffee morning youth clubs and a friday lunch club ,jo is no longer here now saddley she passed away 2 yrs ago but i think everyone at the church new her ,,sorry to go on but nice talking to you xx
hi i was baptised at st johns .i took over from maggie to do the baptisams i did it for 14 years i dont go now since mum and dad passed away .i go to coffee mornings .its not the same now .not when we went to church and sunday school do you remember kathleen heaton .she lived round the corner from me i wiil be 66 this time where has it all gone .love to hear from you love christine xx
hiya love ,sorry i dont remember a kathleen heaton in hereford road i knew hazel gough and christine everson they sere my age and a lass called edna barnet ,,i think you will be the same age as my step sister jean bromilow ,and kathleen hitchen and gwyneth maiden they are both very close friends of mine ,my name was Barbara Gibson ,now Rigby there was another Barbara Gibson at Argyle street she lived on Chapel Green ,her brother DavidGibson was killed jumping the landings in the tunnels at begining of borsdane wood he was 14 at the time now he was in my class at school ,cheers for now Barbara xx

I am Josephine in photo, I married a Cross 7 moved to Ashton, 1969. Live in leicestershire, second husband.Ted Walker my uncle, Danes Ave.Daughters Chris. & Rose.
hiya ,well its a small world ,Ted walker was my late father in laws cousin ,i think on thiers mothers side of the family ,a family tree i would like to do ,but not much to go off ,iremember Ted and maggies daughters they went to argyle st school when i did ,also in the early 70s my inlaws john and mollie rigby moved into 83 Danes ave ,2 doors from the walkers. i now live at 93 Darby lane in one of the 5 remaining old houses ,allthe rest are new builds its still a very nice friendly community,,i was brought up in harper st hindley the same street as hindley dole offices on liverpool road ,alice buckleys dad and family lived on liverpoolrd ,and i remember her mum was amelia walker ,,my mum worked aholdsworth and gibs in the 40s ,i went there to work in the spining room doffing as they called it ,i did a monday morning till dinner and walked out ,it wasnt what id been used to ,my mum was appalled at me walking out because she had been happy there ,,nice to chat ........
Ted&Maggie my Uncle&Aunt, Christine& Roseanne, cousins.I was born at 103 Darby Ln.Amelia , my Aunt, Alice a cousin.I worked at H/Gibbs with Alice & Joan on photo.We must be related.How can I get in touch?.Brorther Tommy does family tree.Rigbys on it.
I Have just read with interest the comments left by christine and instantely. recognised some of the people she speaks about ie Hazel Gough and Edna Barnett.I lived at number 15 hereford Road until I left in 1960 and moved to Chorley where i still live.I remember a Les Walker would he be related.

Hi Christine, Before moving to Hereford Rd i lived on Close st when the estate was being built, I think Kathleen Heaton lived on Castle Hill near the Spinners pub.

sorry im only just responding to yr message Josie ,its a small world im positive the rigbys are relation to you ,i think the lady rosanne walker [slater] is my late father in laws was a his mothers sister that would make her his aunt ,im hoping my husband Frank Rigbys eldest Brother Eddie Rigby may know more about this than us ,i intend to ask him asap and then i will get back to you and let you know ,i live in Darby lane now my house once belonged to a Walter Lovett and a man called Joe Darwin and his mother lived next door,there is only 5 cottages left of the old houses here but there is a small estate of newish houses ,here on darby lane ,in fact a family at 99 darby lane one of the new homes is actualy minnie walkers grandson KIETH ,i think he is Irenes son nice to chat with you Barbara ,,,
Hi, Minnie was my Auntie, Ike her husband. Lived in Woodford St. at one time.3 daughters , 1 son.My mam Edith &Minnie were sisters. We lived at 103, Darby Ln. until 1968.My sister Rosie, caretakler at St. Peter`s School.
josie are you by any chance related to the jackson family who lived in Lodge street Hindley .i was brought up in harper st off liverpool road and close by lived Alice Buckley her mum and dad lived with her Gandma May Buckley,her mum Amelia would be yr mums sister as well ,io remember Alice and her cousin Isabelle Prescot we al used to play to gether when we were kids ,nice to have a natter with you love .

i think im getting a bit confused here ,if Joan Walker was yr cousin and her mother was mjnnie walker, did minnie marry someone called Walker because i always knew minnie girls surname walker ,or have i got it wrong somwhere !!!!!!
My dad is the son of Frank Hoyle and Joan Hoyle :) not a clue who the other to is thought it may have been my grandmas sisters :/
Hi there Everyone,enjoying reading this. I'm Dawn turner , Marion walkers daughter. My grandmother Minnie walker married ike walker ... Lots of walkers about wasn't her :)
There was another photo on here recently that was taken at my mum and dads wedding . It's the one with josie, Alice and uncle raymond, my dads mother was in the background . I remember looking at it and thinking why is my dads mother in the background, when I showed mum it she said it was taken at her wedding.
