Joe Jayne was a partner along with Joe Hill of the tyre company that was in Pottery Road in the 60s. The company was Hill and Jayne. Joe Jayne's wife was the sister of Joe Hill.

I remember the Jayne family living in Douglas Terrace, especially old Mrs Jayne, I was only a child at the time. My grandparents lived in the terrace. my mother has a couple of paintings of wigan pier and one of the seven stars bridge that were done by joe.

The family in Douglas Terrace was Joe's mother and dad. When I was a child, I went there with my uncle Joe Bradshaw who was a coalman. We used to tip the coal under the stairs!!

This is my Great Grandpa Joe and great grandmother. I believe Joe called Edith “Mary”. Brent is my Grandfather. It’s lovely to see photographs of great grandparents. I’d never have known what they looked like without this.

Edith was my Great Aunt. She was the youngest of the Hill family and the sister of my Grandfather Joseph Hill. He ran the Hill and Jayne tyre company on Pottery Road with Edith’s husband Joseph Jayne.
Edith’s maiden name name was Edith Mary Hill. Her Father had a daughter named Mary by his first wife who died. I think both his wives were called Mary so the name lived on.
