Here's a photo of a middle-class widow from the 1890s, taken in Simpkin's studio in Ashton. On the back is pencilled 'Madam Morris'. Who was Madam Morris and why have I got her in among a bunch of photos of an ordinary working-class mining/cotton family?

My mother was a Morris of Wigan roots and I would willingly take this grand lady into my family.

Add a century to that, Ged, and we might be getting warm. 1880s, the secretary of Garswood Colliery was a Thomas Morris. Does anyone know when he died? Could this be his widow?
