Martin, to add to the comment I made about the pic of Ernie Alker. I think there must be some connection to the family I knew. We lived at 235 Ormskirk Road, Holland Moor, second house on the Digmoor side of Back Lane. The house was built in about 1948 by the Dickinson Brothers who owned the Lyric Cinema at Upholland. The couple next door had a blonde haired son a little younger than me, his name was Eric.
