A group of Standish children and parents, based around Smalley Street area, got together to celebrate the Coronation(?) Anyone help here?
My cousins Doreen and Susan Charnock are on the photo. I'm sure many "Owd Standishers" can name a few more!

It's not easy to pinpoint anyone but find the lad on the right, with his hands in his pockets and his tie outside his pullover, just behind him and to the left is Malcolm Ryding of Wigan Observer "fame".

It seems to have generated a lot of interest but no comments! If you're on, perhaps just send a name? I can see old friends Frank Woods, Alan Wilding and Roy Naylor (who was keen on fishing(?) when we were "lads"

Hi Alan,go first left from Malcolm Ryding (see earlier directions) and find the slightly taller lad with a short sleeved pullover. He is Frank Woods.

To add a few more...
Front row; third from left is Susan Charnock, 5th from left is Carole Liptrot (?) holding her brother's hand, 6th from left is (I think) Margaret Woods and 7th from left is Doreen Charnock.

I had forgotten about a copy which I had from the Wigan Observer, in which Malcolm Ryding adds some names and information. This gathering was for a Coronation "street party" in June 1953. This took place in a building off Preston Road.
In the photo are mums, Kathleen Simm,Rhoda Liptrot,Doris Naylor,Florence Elsey and Mrs Abbott.
The children are Barry and Alan Wilding, Barry Seddon, John Robinson, Frank Morgan, Billy and Harold Molyneux, Raymond and Jackie Langton, Raymond Aspey, Joan Irvine, James Marrow, Jackie Critchley, Molly Knight, Sandra Hunter, Edmund and David Gerrard, Mary Stringfellow, Stephanie Abbott, Carol and Colin Liptrot and Wendy Dainty.
I don't know these, so I hope you can spot some old friends from the past!

the fifth from left is Carol Liptrot, I noticed the question mark. I recognised her brother,Colin, immediately as he is my dad and looks the spitting image of my brothers. Lovely picture.

At the back of Greenwood Road/Avondale Street there was a children's play area Alan, could it have been there?

Comment by: linda massa on 7th January 2013 at 11:30

It's not Greenwood Road Alan it was at the back of Broomfield Road/Avondale Street.

Comment by: linda massa on 7th January 2013 at 11:33

Got it wrong Alan, the play area was land at the back of Broomfield Road and Avondale Street.

The picture was taken at the Standish Band 'band hut' off Preston Road close to Tommy Walsh's. One person not on picture was my mother, Hilda. She was busy giving birth to my younger sister, Patricia, in Chorley Hospital. Love to get in touch with Isobel to find out about dad, Colin, and Carole. They were my next door but one neighbours and we played together with Doreen and Susan Charnock. Both families moved away while we stayed in Standish

I remember your parents very well Malcolm. We used to go to your house to buy a ticket to play tennis on the courts and in later years when I worked at Ashfield House.

You are not wrong on any Linda cos the play area was at the back of all three of the roads its in a triangle i got some of my bottom teeth knocked out when a lad named Kevill slammed the seesaw down and i coughtit under mi chin on the other side when it came up

Comment by: Alison Aspey on 29th April 2013 at 02:17

please can someone point out Raymond Aspey on this photo. I would really appreciate it, Ta

But where are they now, 60 years on. Sadly some have died, others are still enjoying retirement. Alison : cousin Raymond Aspey is on the back row peeping from behind Frankie Morgan who is wearing a cap and spectacles.
