just back off a bitthe fruit shop now its the next house's going up right there's some thing there but not the old house's that were earlier so again please can you help!
Alan, the photo is post 1966 - you can see St. Cuthberts 'new' church on Sherwood drive in the upper right corner. The square green patch (centre top third) - was were the Old St.Cuthert's stood. I made my first communion there in April 1966. The 'quadrangle' building to the left of where the curch stood was part of St Cuthbert's school
This photo seem to be taken in the 80's and not 1966 as i remember a building standing next door to the unit 4 on corner of Tunstall lane in the 70's which no longer stand in the pic.
Hello you carol hope you still online, the picture again I did not intend to disrespect your comments , and if you look at the CARLTON just across tunstall lane the building in white is now the vegetable shop follow the roof line which is flat then rises to roofs again so I am thinking the flat roofs is where the video shop is and carol I recall the old ST.cuthberts church was it made from a kind of metal /tin something??????? the grass area bit lower down the tory clubs bowling green .back were of video shop area ravine club and bowling green I wish I could find out how to get hold of some of these photo's don't care what they cost I just want them so if you are reading this carol drop us a line.
No probs! I grew up in Pemberton, my grandma lived on Ormskirk road just a bit further up from the halfway house. I was just trying to say it was post 1966 (I was 7 then) to help pin the date down. I spent a lot of time around here.
I absolutely love this photo! I grew up in Pemberton.. I lived too Sherwood drive from 1963.. my dad Still lives there.. I will get my family to verify dates.. I remember part of the old infants on Cuthbert Street and walking down Ellesmere Road to the other part of old school.. There were a railing and the classrooms stood on verandas.. The toilets were outside.. I was there 1960s the old church which was made from wood & corrugated iron had been pulled down then.. The new St Cuthberts was being built in 1960s and the first mass was said on Sunday February 19th in 1967 by Father Carden..
