This, and its companion pic, seems an odd choice of picture to include in the book. These may have been early Council houses.

These houses are actually on Preston Road with Pepper Lane going round to the left. The signpost points south to Wigan and north to Euxton, Chorley, Leyland and Preston.

The two blocks of semis' on Preston Rd are still there, plus another two blocks, same design. According to the Google Earth sattelite pic.
