Liverpool MP Sir John Harmood Banner was involved with the business of Pearson & Knowles, whose families had built the church in 1887. As may be seen from this plaque, he was also connected by marriage. The quality of the Memorials in St Mary's may be the result of his grief at losing both a son and a daughter as a result of the War. The carver of the Memorials was Mr J Lenegan, of Atherton Street, Manchester.
This plaque has been re-used in the present St Mary's to carry the names of those from the Parish who fell in WW2.
