Looks like a load of Hillman cars from Scotland.I think there was a big contract to supply Avengers to Iran about that time.

looks like the train is on its way to Scotland as the head code has 4 for express freight and S for scotland.
train could have originated from Halewood.

Ah, but it were much better when 't steam trains cum through int' 1950's. Bye eck... We could see 'em from 't Grammar School during 't lessons.

Just wonderful photos. Did the trains go to Manchester from Wigan NW or was that the other station ? We used to get the train from Wigan to Manchester, change there & get an onward train to Buxton.....in the days of steam.

Up until the late 1960's, you could get a train from all stations in Wigan. North Western, would have taken you to Manchester Excahnge; Wigan Central to Manchester Central, (closed 1964); and Wallgate to Victoria. Don't know if you would have got your train in Manchester for Buxton; Manchester Piccadilly?
