Lock Keeper's at Appley Bridge c1955 - the barge emerging is a coal barge named "Severn" and registered "Liverpool".
A rare photo I think.

Walk along the canal from the bridge on Appley Lane towards Parbold for maybe a quarter of a mile, you'll find the twin locks, only one of which is still in operation.

This is a rare photograph.
An even rarer one would be of the row of houses at the bottom right along the tow path.
One of the families who lived there was Kelsalls( Tony ) and another i think was Clements.
