circa 1950s approx. Britannia Bridge.The building to the right of the bridge is the Shepherds Arms which has been closed for some years now

my mother ann glover born 17/1/1921 lived on the other side of the road under the bridge on the canal bank house no 7 opposite side to the shep arms her father my granddad was richard glover a blacksmith there was a stable under the house mam took us to see her house before it was demolished in the late 50's my great granddad glover used to own barges and worked on the canals transporting goods he was away from home most of the time my grans name was elizabeth knowm as lizzy maiden name sinclaire my mums siblings robert the eldest then ann (mam) thomas, alec, betty, nancy, youngest jean gran had two boys both named richard and girl named margeret sadly the died in infancy mam and gran told me and my sisters and brothers many stories what went on the daily life on the canal just before the war gran and grandad and all the family moved into a new built council house electricity/bathroom/garden number 50 christopher st ince mam married robert hilton born 28/7/1916 he lived at no. 2 canal st ince near what is now william fosters playing fields his family moved to 24 christopher st and mam and dad married after the war 18/5/ 1946 they lived at no. 24 christopher st they had 5 children alan, mary, carol(me) ernie, youngest elaine where we all lived till we left to get married dad died in 1986 mam died in 1992 gran and grandad glover both died 1982
