Photo of yours truly in my pedal train. You can just make out the Royal George lodging house at the top of the street.

I loved that train. I must have peddled miles in it up and down the street. All the houses, upwards from where the little girl is crossing the road, have all beeen demolished. It is now the site of old folks bungalows

I would have bet anything it was a cobbled street. Maybe it had only recently been done? As you can still see the cobbles at the side of the road in the gutter. Looks like the front wheel is in need of a repair<g>

Is this street just off Darlington Street on the left hand side before the Silverwell as you head towards Birkett Bank? Also are there any houses in the photo that are still standing?

Yes, there is a second hand furniture shop on the corner. When I lived there it was a barbers. The houses up to the street on the left are still there, I was born in No.82. Which is still there. I don't know if there are a few more houses just past the street which are still there? All the rest of the street is now Old Folks bungalows. The road at the top is Hardybutts which is still named the same. First left after Scholes crossing.
