Is this where Wigan Lane branches to the right, to meet the A49, the other section of Wigan Lane?. A long time ago, I went to a wake at this hostelry.

Yes, you've got the location right Albert. Another pub, the Saracen's Head was demolished to create the junction between Wigan Lane and Central Park Way (the A49).
