What a waste of beautiful stone - it's a wonder if it's still there.
These are lovely photos Dtease and even if they are not strictly 'Wigan' scenes , many Wiganers love 'Rivvy' and do go there and why not ? This 'mini' Lake District is on the doorstep! My first impression of Rivington in the sixties was that it looked like Westmoreland - I didn't know it existed until then!
My name is Ozymandias, king of kings'. Look on my works ye mighty and despair! Nothing beside remains....whatever happened to that bloke?
Yes Ozy's input was humorous and intelligent.... Can't think where he is - it's too cold for the air- raid shelter!
Maybe he's sailed away for a year and a day to the land where the Tittibong Tree's grow.
I've walked up Rivington numerous times in the past five years - and always come down through the Chinese Gardens, and so have noticed the vast amount of work being carried out there. The structures like this are being renovated as they go along. Look up the Groundwork Trust's Facebook page to see the progress: https://www.facebook.com/RivingtonTG/
