My maternal Grandparents lived in Bolton Street, my mother was born there in 1912. I would often visit them as a young lad back in the 1940/50s, does anyone have a photo of Bolton street ? it would be lovely to see it again. Thanks Ron for posting the photo.

It would be nice if that lad recognises himself. Dressed for the day in his gaberdine mac and wellies! Who knows what he would be up to ... Off to the plantations or over the fields - the 'world's ' his oyster. Looks like he's wearing some kind of shoulder bag - he means business.

I think you've nailed it, Veronica: The lad appears to be starting out on his planned route ('probably with a 'Catty' stuffed in his coat pocket').

They truly were happy days with no restrictions! I feel sorry for the young kids of today - they won't have the memories that we have that's for sure. It's just not safe for them these days.

We children had lovely carefree days, and the sun always seemed to shine,I could wallow in my memories...I too feel sorry for today's youngsters..they just haven't the freedom that we had.

Further to Tom's comment above, I think this is actually Bolton's Yard which used to be off Hallgate.
According to Borough street indexes and Yearbooks, the entrance to the yard was down the side of number 51 Hallgate.

Mick I am sure your right.wonder if some of the girls from wallgate know.

51 Hallgate would have been on 'big' Hallgate just below where Harry Wallworks barbers is now.
