A great pub with superb beer. Thankfully the great taste of superb cask conditioned beers are back with the micro breweries.

I don't remember the New Star pub in Wallgate, but it was located at the junction of Miry Lane, where the Gordon Ford garage used to be. Two other nearby pubs that were demolished for the new ring road in c1984 were the Grapes and Wheatsheaf. In this 1960s or possibly 1970s photograph there is a black Rover whose rear doors opened the opposite way to most other cars.

The sweet (or toffee ) shop next door was owned by Mr Ogilvie : he travelled each day from Southport.

Why did this pub have so many doors?

Me and my girlfriend then now my wife loved this pub in the early seventies, very friendly people and excellent ales, this and the Star further up made a great weekend in town for us.

Mr X, those rear doors on the Rover were known as 'Suicide Doors' for some reason or another.

Used to go in there for a swift pint after finishing work at 2pm morning shift at Taylors Carpets late 60's.
