David,there is a book called "About Standish" by M.D.Smith. publ.2003. I bought it about 10 years ago so it may still be obtainable. One of the photographs show the well and adjacent within the railings are the stocks. There is a gas lamp by the side of it as shown in your photo.It also appears that the stocks were repositioned by the cross after the demolition of Spite Row around 1931.
