The train in photo is going towards Hindley no3 photo taken on the canal bridge Scotmans flash
Riddles 9F heading towards Hindley North down the dip. Great photograph.
9f's appeared late 1959 eplacing war dept locos.is that a diesel in the box loop.
What is it like round there today, is the embankment still there? Any photos of no-3 signal box, John.
9F didn't replace WD Austerity 2-8-0 these cheaply built locos carried on up to the end of steam in 1968.
I believe part of the line is being used for the new link road. Be interesting how they cross the flash: new bridge?
New bridge is the least of the problem. It's the people who live near the proposed new road who they should be concerned about.
once again the expert garry sticks his hooter in and his wrong again WD'S WHERE ALL GONE BY EARLY /MID 1967.none lasted to the end of steam.
Some WD austerity's are still in steam today on private lines, but withdrawn up to the end of steam when all steam traction ended for BR in August 1968.
garry the facts, all WD locos in preservation are from foreign climes, please try and keep up ian allen.
Know its a late post, re bridge. Though, that's progress for you. People can always move! Just like they had to when railways were first laid.
You won't be saying that, Gerry if your house was being knocked down if you like the place you live.
Wouldn't bother me.
Price of progress, get used to it!
