What has this got to do with Wigan?????

He seems well equipped for the front lines with a walking stick, this is a token gesture, enemy must be miles away. I agree with Scaramouche, why on here ? Or, maybe it was the Battle of Wigan Lane.

The grave of the fallen hero could have been a Wiganer...who knows? Anyway whoever he was he represents them all and God knows many enough were killed from Wigan! The photo could have been in the collection of a Wiganer I'm sure we will find out......

Ignorance shows it's head yet again. He was the king of a nation that sent it's finest to that war, it would have been the right and proper thing for any monarch to do. That grave could have indeed been a local soldier, even if it isn't it qualifies for a place on the Album in my eyes just for that single sacrifice.

joseph what are you on about ignorance??? The site can't show EVERY photograph that has been taken. This section is for Wigan related photographs, not the World's photographs.

I just wondered whether or not it would be possible to be a little more tolerant and flexible regarding this ' Wigan connection ' issue. As Scaramouche correctly states, it wouldn't be possible to publish every photograph that's ever been taken on this site. By the same token however, there must obviously be a determinate number of photographs available that fall within the tight parameters that many people on here appear to find acceptable. Speaking for myself, I happen to find this particular photo interesting, as it's one that I don't believe I've seen before, and probably never would have seen were it not for the fact that Donald has taken the trouble to post it, and as I find it interesting, and as I also live in Wigan, then there's the connection. Like it or lump it. Same with p.a.d. Ron Dawber submits photos of the canal and Haigh Hall and people complain. Mick Byrne gets several in a row published and again, people kick off. Interestly though, the people that do most of the moaning, seem to be the same people that don't appear to contribute anything themselves. Nothing that I've ever seen at any rate. A few days ago, a lad called Andrew posted a comment on p.a.d. If you haven't read it then I suggest that you do. Basically what he says is that posting on here just isn't worth the hassle, and he isn't far off the mark in my opinion. Myself and others have been criticised for attempting to inject a little humour and frivolity into the proceedings.
' deliberately ruining the post ' I believe was one of the charges. Perhaps these people are ignorant to the possibility that their constant whining and bickering has the potential to ruin the site entirely. After all, when everyone stops submitting photos, all you pedants and whingers will just have to go back to watching Jeremy Kyle and Judge Rinder to get your kicks, won't you ?

Just a thought.

Regards. Ozy.

Why not wait to see what the connection is.....?

Comment by: Josh on 10th December 2016 at 19:53

I have to agree with scaramouch there are other sites for "non Wigan" photos

Comment by: Philip Cunliffe on 10th December 2016 at 23:46

Agree with Josh. The photograph is of interest. However if there is no clear Wigan connection when is a photograph not to be included

Maybe the postcard was sent to someone in Wigan

Comment by: Donald Darby on 14th December 2016 at 17:22

The picture is from a Joseph Molyneux who was from Wigan.
He was in the army during World War 1. He was wounded and gassed during the war. I believe it has to do with some one from ,that did his duty, that makes it possible for you to make comments.

Well put, Donald, and thanks for the update. A picture well worth it's place on WW.

Comment by: Vb on 15th December 2016 at 18:55

Agree there Joseph.....I knew there must have been a connection.

Just because it was sent from someone from Wigan doesn't mean that it is anything to do with Wigan.. Can you imagine how many millions of letters that are around that have been sent from someone who came from Wigan? Postcards from holidays, Birthday cards, letters etc. etc.
