I can smell the fish just looking at this picture! First you could smell the roasting chickens making your mouth water -then the fish! It was always crowded in this area.

I agree with Vb....you can almost smell the fish and feel the atmosphere.

I wonder if the man in the grey suit is the same man as WigWan thinks is her dad.... When I look at the pictures Irene I always look at faces to see if any of them are my relatives. I would be thrilled to bits if I saw my mam or dad!,,,,in later years my dad would go on the market but would never carry a bag!,,,he would roll a parcel up and carry it under his arm!!,,,I don't know what he would do if he bought any pies....probably put 'em in his pocket!

Vb..Im always looking to see if I can see my Mam,wouldn't it be lovely if we could just spot them...I know the ladies face at the fromt of the photo looking to her right, but blowed if I can remember who she is...sadly the days of the old market will never come back.

Yes some faces do seem familiar we must have passed people many a time without knowing them ...it's the Wigan we remember Maureen. It's great to see these pictures. I'm always hoping new Scholes pictures will come up!

How odd, Vb and Maureen....the lady on the right struck familiar with me too. Maureen, our Jamie is 40 today.....hasn't he landed a lovely day after all the hailstone and rain? See you on the 6th. x.

Irene,I'm wondering if she worked any shop or even the market at some time..there's no other reason that we both seem to recognize her is there?

I have no idea why this iPad repeats itself at times.

Neil's mobile phone does that doubling-up with texts, Maureen...you get a text and then it sends it again. I will pass on your good wishes to Jamie. Odd how we all seem to know that lady!

I used to take a deep breath and rush past here, couldn't stand the smell or seeing the dead rabbits hung up outsidez7a
