I was also thinking the corner of Ashland Avenue / Freckleton Street. The camera man would have Swinley Lane behind him.

An aunt of mine told me years ago that on May Day (1st of May) people dressed up and horses were groomed and paraded around the local area,perhaps this young man and his horse were taking part in May Day celebrations.
