It was on one of those stalls there that Dave Whelan started off by selling hairspray, soap etc.
Vauxhall Chevette in the forground, Hillman Avenger to the right. You could hear them rusting in front of your eyes !!
I agree with the rust part, WN1 Standisher, but the car on the left is a Vauxhall Cavalier and the other a Morris Marina Coupe.
Definitely a Marina Coupe, Colin. We got one in the mid 70s after a couple of minis, and the offside filler cap always confused my missus, afer the nearside ones on Minis.
The Avenger filler cap was on the back pael, between the boot and the bumper.
Was it Whelan and Taylor Linda?
I think it was Alan. Don't know what happened to Taylor it was just Whelans when he converted the Church to his supermarket.
Colin Taylor was Dave Whelan's brother in law. Sadly he died a few weeks ago.
Whelan's was in Ormerod's Buildings, not the church. The chhurch (Congregational) was demolished over forty years ago in about 1974.
Didn't British Leyland have some awful colours for their vehicles. I remember a brownie/green colour in the 1970s on a Austin Allegro, awful car and awful colour. It was voted Britons worst car.
