MarieM - Most likely named after the Wilgoose family, who were involved in a lot of different businesses in Wigan in the early 19th century.
Looks like the council added another 'L' to their name, when they had the sign made!

Dave..go down Wallgate,it's the very first turning after Wallgate bridge..it's an alleyway at the back of Great George Street.
