I don't think that this is a pic of St Lukes at Lodge Rd Orrell, St Lukes church wasn't completed until 1939 and is totally different in design. Also this church is far too near to the road.
This is the old church which was situated in Church Street. It was used as the Parish Church Hall when I was growing up in the 1950's.
Ahh I see. Where abouts in Church St was it? I can only imagine it being in between Farmoor & Holgate infant School?
I do remember an old church hall close to Edge Hall Road that was demolished around the 70's, would that be it?
MS - It was where the present day Wescoe Close now is - on Church Street, 70 or 80 yards to the north of its junction with Edge Hall Road.
In the 50's parishioners used to assemble here prior to the church walking days. I also remember the Christmas parties being held here too. I can visualise quite a bit of land around the old church, but can't remember if there were any headstones or old graves. Perhaps someone can help?
